Volodymyr Zelenskyy meets delegation of US senators

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a bipartisan delegation of the US Congress, which included Senators Robert Portman, Chris Murphy, Gene Shaheen, Amy Klobuchar, Richard Blumenthal and Roger Wicker. This is reported by the Official Internet Office of the President of Ukraine.

The head of state thanked the United States Congress for its solidarity with the people of Ukraine amid the current security challenges.

"It is very important for Ukraine, for our people that you are with us today. This demonstrates the unwavering bicameral, bipartisan support for our state, as well as its sovereignty, territorial integrity," the President said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy briefed the US senators on the security situation around Ukraine and steps that would help de-escalate and prevent further Russian aggression.

The head of state noted the important role of the Congress in supporting Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and deepening cooperation between the two states.

"We feel and receive effective security assistance at such a difficult time, a time of aggression on the part of the Russian Federation," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

During the conversation, there was a unanimous position that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a challenge to the energy security of Ukraine and Europe as a whole.

The President stated that it was necessary to prepare a preventive package of sanctions against Russia to counteract the aggression.

The head of state drew attention to the fact that Russia continues to conduct an active campaign of passportization of the population in the temporarily occupied territories, trying to create a pretext for escalation under the guise of "protection of Russian citizens".

The US senators expressed unanimous support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and noted the full and unconditional right of our state to determine its own security.
