Ukrainian President met with German Foreign Minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Berbock. This is reported by the Official Internet representation of the President of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of state noted the importance of this visit, in particular against the background of the tense situation around the borders of Ukraine.

In this regard he expressed gratitude to the German government for its support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.

The security situation around Ukraine and the progress of the peace process were discussed in detail and it was noted that further escalation of aggression can be prevented by restrictive measures, among others - preventive sanctions. Stressing the unity of approaches to the peace process, in particular regarding the cluster approach to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the sides expressed hope that the next summit in the Normandy format would be organized soon.

"Without achieving peace in Ukraine, there can be no talk about the security of Europe," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Considerable attention during the meeting was paid to strengthening Ukraine's energy security. The President stressed that Nord Stream 2 is a geopolitical project and a weapon directed both against our state and against the whole Europe. It was jointly stated that the use of the project as a weapon will lead to the application of harsh measures of response.

The interlocutors noted the commonality of approaches of Ukraine and Germany to the development of cooperation in the field of energy, in particular concerning the "green" transformation and renewable energy sources. It was noted that Germany's opening an office in Kyiv for Ukrainian-German hydrogen energy projects will contribute to practical realization of the joint priorities.

The necessity of joint realization of concrete steps for strengthening energy security of Ukraine was also noted, among other things, guaranteeing the long-term gas transit through our country.

Special attention was paid to European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. The importance of consolidation of the European perspective of our state was noted and the hope for corresponding support from FRG was expressed.

During the meeting the parties also stressed the symbolism of the fact that Annalena Berbock's visit to Ukraine takes place on the day of the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Germany.
