London imposed new sanctions: Putin's propaganda mouthpieces and the Russian general responsible for the destruction of Mariupol are under attack

Britain has expanded sanctions against Russia for its war against Ukraine, Putin's propaganda mouthpieces and Russian General Mikhail Mizintsev, responsible for the destruction of Mariupol, were under attack, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said Thursday, March 31.

"Putin's war against Ukraine is based on lies. Today I announced new sanctions against Russian state media and Kremlin mouthpieces spreading Putin's propaganda. Among them is Mikhail Mizintsev, responsible for the horrific shelling of Mariupol," Liz Truss wrote on Twitter.

Liz Truss announced that London has expanded its sanctions list by 14 items, including Russian propagandist Sergei Brilev and the Kremlin-funded TV-Novosti channel, which owns RT.

"Sergei Brilev, a well-known TV host for the Russian state-run media outlet Rossiya and a propagandist for Putin. Previously resident in Britain, Brilev will no longer be able to access his British assets or continue his business dealings," the British Foreign Office pointed out in particular.

The British government is also said to be imposing direct sanctions on state media organizations, targeting the Kremlin-funded TV News, which owns RT (formerly Russia Today), and Russia Today, which controls the news agency Sputnik.

Following Ofcom's decision to revoke RT's broadcasting license, these sanctions are said to ensure that RT cannot return to British television, nor will they allow companies and individuals operating in Britain to do business with the Russian state propaganda agencies RT and Sputnik, as well as key figures in those organizations.

"Other propagandists who have been hit by sanctions today include:

Alexander Zharov, CEO of Gazprom-Media and former head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor)

Alexei Nikolov, managing director of RT

Anton Anisimov, head of international broadcasting at Sputnik," the report said.

The new sanctions also apply to Russian Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, known as the "Mariupol butcher."

"Mizintsev, called the "Mariupol butcher," is the head of the national defense control center where all Russian military operations around the world are planned and controlled. Mizintsev is known for using reprehensible tactics, including shelling civilian centers both in Aleppo in 2015-16 and now in Mariupol, where atrocities against the Ukrainian people are perpetuated," the British Foreign Office pointed out.
