Zelensky explained his words about the "red line" in Mariupol and withdrawal from negotiations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his words about the "red line" in Mariupol and withdrawal from negotiations meant the suspension of the political component if the defenders of the city are destroyed. The humanitarian negotiations will continue anyway.

This is reported by the adviser to the head of the Office of the President, Mykhail Podolyak, on the air of the telethon.

"There are several tables within the negotiation process. On one of them lies the political map, on the other - the map of the settlement in terms of getting out of the war, but there are also separate cards, humanitarian. These are prisoner exchanges, humanitarian corridors, the possibility of getting our people out of the temporarily occupied territories. When the President speaks about the suspension of the negotiation process, of course, he means the complete cessation of the political component or all the others, except the humanitarian one," he said.

According to him, negotiations on the exchange of prisoners and the opening of humanitarian corridors will go on continuously.

"Because these are our people, and we can't settle the affairs of these people without it, so that they don't feel abandoned," Podolyak added.

Also Mykhail Podolyak noted that the Russian Federation with the situation with the siege of Mariupol wants not just to eliminate the defenders, but to bring them to their knees. To then show propaganda videos to its domestic audience.

"Russia thinks no one understands this, but to the world it is clear. They don't just want to kill people, they want to bring them to their knees demonstratively, make some propaganda videos and then play them for their internal needs. It certainly won't help them win the war, they won't win it in principle. It will definitely not help them to create tactical victories and show them for internal propaganda," he said.

The advisor to the head of the Office of the President also believes that the evacuation of civilians in Mariupol could improve Russia's situation. In particular, it would affect its reputation.

According to him, the defenders of Mariupol will not surrender. Regiment "Azov" will hold the defense of the city.

"They will definitely not surrender. This is a matter of principle, this is a symbol of Azov's indestructibility. Therefore, it is a very difficult situation," said the adviser to the head of the OPU.

In addition, Podolyak is sure that the green corridor from Mariupol could also affect Russia, which has lost its reputation because of the atrocities that took place in Ukraine.

"It seems to me that after the events in the Kiev region, it is in Mariupol that the Russian Federation could prove that all the same, not everything human has been lost. That is, to give an opportunity to take civilians, military personnel, the wounded, first of all. It would be good for their reputation, which is almost gone," Podolyak said.
