EU transfers new tranche of macrofinancial assistance for 600 million euros to Ukraine

On Friday, May 20, the European Union paid out a new tranche of 600 million euros. The funds are part of the macrofinancial assistance of 9 billion euros.

This was announced by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in Twitter.

"Today we paid a new tranche of 600 million euros as part of the macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine. We offered an additional loan of 9 billion euros for Ukraine in 2022," she wrote.

The head of the European Commission added that in addition to aid, the EU will work on a reconstruction platform to help rebuild Ukraine as a free, democratic country.

Earlier it was reported that the European Commission will provide Ukraine with a new package of macrofinancial assistance worth 9 billion euros.

Recall that the UK and other G7 countries are considering the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine. A new "Marshall Plan" for Ukraine's recovery is needed, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said.

"Our lawyers are working intensively to find possible ways to use the frozen assets of oligarchs to rebuild Ukraine. I think that Russia should also contribute," the head of the European Commission also noted.
