USA imposes sanctions against Russian aircraft factories

The United States added 71 Russian and Belarusian companies to its trade blacklist, including several aircraft factories, shipbuilding and research institutes. This was reported by Reuters.

70 Russian companies and other organizations have been added to the subsanctioned enterprises, such as several institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, including the Kharkevich Institute for Information Transmission Problems and the Trapeznikov Institute of Management Problems. One Belarusian enterprise was also put on the list.

The sanctions have also been imposed on several aircraft factories, including one of Russia's largest factories producing passenger and cargo aircraft, the Voronezh Joint Stock Aircraft Company.

The Irkutsk aircraft plant was added to the blacklist. It has produced about 7,000 aircraft of more than 20 types since 1934 and produces airliners of the MS-21 family.

Also added are a branch of the Ilyushin Aviation Complex, the St. Petersburg Shipbuilding Institute and the Special Research Bureau for Automation of Marine Research of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In all, the U.S. Department of Commerce has added 322 organizations to its economic blacklist since February.

The U.S. State Department and Treasury Department on Thursday announced new sanctions against Russian officials, yachts and businesses.
