Syria has decided to break diplomatic relations with Ukraine in response to a similar decision by Kiev. This was reported by SANA news agency citing a source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

"The Syrian Arab Republic has decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine in accordance with the principle of reciprocity and in response to the Ukrainian government's decision in this regard," the report said.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry also noted that the Ukrainian government virtually severed relations with their country in 2018 when it refused to renew residency permits for Syrian diplomats working at the embassy in Kyiv.

On June 30, Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Syria in response to the recognition of pseudo-republics in the ORDLO.
