Another absurdity from a terrorist state and an ineffective global security architecture - Presidential Address

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called Russia's decision to recognize the Azov regiment as a terrorist organization absurd.

This was reported in a nighttime address by the Ukrainian head of state.

Zelensky stressed that the Russian Federation has now begun to realize the inevitability of recognizing their country as a terrorist state, because after all the horrors that the Russian army has committed, no terrorist organization can claim the primacy in terror.

"Russia is definitely No. 1 among terrorists and it certainly deserves legal consequences. That's why another propaganda effort came out of Moscow. They declared "Azov" as terrorists, although when it is done by a terrorist state, it is obviously absurd," said the president.

Uladzimir Zelensky also said that conflict situations in the world, in particular in the Balkans and Taiwan, arise because of the ineffective global security architecture. The world has to work out a model, which would guarantee that no country would show aggression against another one.

He noted that there are now many reports of conflict situations and threats in the world in the information space.

"First the Balkans, then Taiwan, now maybe the Caucasus... All of these situations seem different, although they have one factor in common, which is that the global security architecture did not work. If it had worked, there wouldn't have been all this conflict," Zelensky said.

He added that it is security issues that Ukraine has been paying attention to not only since the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression, but for years now: "Since Russia ignored international law completely, the interests of humanity as such completely."

The president noted that 2014 was a turning point.

"Then in the very obvious situations with Crimea, Donbas, with the shooting down of the Malaysian Boeing, Russia avoided immediate and tangible responsibility - it retained business and political ties with the world. And now many in global relations believe that they will succeed, too," Zelensky said.

The president noted that Ukrainians have now united the entire free world - not just around their fight for freedom, but around understanding how fragile the freedom of every people in Europe and elsewhere in the world is.

"This fragility can only be protected by joint action, and for this to work in the long run there must be an effective global security architecture that ensures that no state can ever again resort to terror against another state. At the systemic level, at the level of global institutions, this is what we are working for right now. Both the Ukrainian state and all our partners," Zelensky added.
