In Lithuania, against the background of mobilization in the Russian Federation, they decided to strengthen the state border

In Lithuania, at a meeting of the State Defense Council chaired by President Gitanas Nauseda, the security situation in the region, mobilization in the Russian Federation and measures to strengthen the protection of the state border were discussed.

This is reported by the Delfi portal.

Council members assessed the security situation in the region as deteriorating, but as the military threat level for Lithuania remains low, its assessment remains unchanged.

Council members agreed that after the announcement of mobilization by the Russian regime, taking into account possible threats, it is necessary to strengthen the protection of the state border of the Republic of Lithuania with the Russian Federation. Considering the tense situation, the council decided to recommend the government to review the State Border Barrier Plan.

The meeting also discussed measures to strengthen the protection of the state border with Belarus, which should complement the establishment of a physical barrier and prevent illegal migration. It was agreed that the actions of Belarusian employees during the violation of the border of the Republic of Lithuania and damage to the physical barrier should be considered as deliberate provocations that increase tensions on NATO's external border.

The members of the State Defense Council are President Gitanas Nauseda, Prime Minister Ingrid Šimonite, Speaker of the Seimas Viktoria Chmilite-Nielsen, Minister of Defense Arvidas Anusauskas, Commander of the Lithuanian Army Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšis.

It will be recalled that Lithuania handed over 50 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine during the entire period of the Russian Federation's full-scale war against Ukraine.
