Five more will be executed in Iran

Iran's judiciary on Tuesday handed down death sentences to five more people believed to be involved in last month's killing of a member of the Basij militia, following a high-profile, televised trial.

The verdict brings the total number of death sentences to 11 since nationwide protests began in September over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, the representative of Iran's judiciary, Masoud Setayeshi, said that 16 defendants had been summoned in the case related to the murder of Ruhollah Ajamian.

Five of them were sentenced to death, and another 11, including three under the age of 18, were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.
