Ukraine is preparing official steps to prove Russia's illegal presence in the UN Security Council

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, announced at an online briefing on Tuesday that Ukraine is preparing for official steps to prove Russia's illegal presence in the UN Security Council.

"Russia has been poisoning the UN for many years, it's no secret to anyone. Just as it poisons all the international organizations in which it is a part. Russia occupies the seat of a permanent member of the UN Security Council without proper legal grounds as a result of a frankly fraudulent scheme that took place 31 years ago "Ukraine is now preparing for official steps that will prove Russia's illegal presence in the UN Council and launch a political process that should lead to the removal of this seat," Kuleba said.

He also accused the UN of inaction on the mission to study the strikes of the Russian Federation with the help of Iranian drones on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.

"Back when Russia was just starting to use Iranian mopeds for terrorist raids on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, Ukraine and its partners appealed to the UN to send a mission of experts to study Russia's use of Iranian drones. This is not just a mission. The fact is that the supply of drones to Russia of Iranian production violate the UN Security Council resolution of 2015, which enshrines the nuclear agreement with Iran," Kuleba said.

Back on October 14, Ukraine officially addressed the UN Secretariat regarding the direction of the mission, the minister added. According to him, the UN Secretariat proposed two alternative dates in November, one of which has already been agreed. But later, the UN Secretariat informed about the impossibility of visiting Ukraine during this period.

"The Secretary General and the UN as a whole have not yet taken any steps to send a mission to Ukraine... I understand that it is not so cold in New York, there is always light and heating, but let me remind you that what the UN Secretariat is doing now - this is an unacceptable delay and connivance of Iran and Russia's impunity for their actions. After all, it is a violation of the Security Council resolution and a threat to international peace and security. The UN should explain the reasons for the delay and inaction," said Kuleba.

Kuleba also welcomed the adoption by the European Union of a new package of sanctions, but said that the pressure on Russia should be increased even more.
