A suicide bomber blew himself up in a mosque in the city of Peshawar in Pakistan. According to officials, at least 25 people died as a result of the explosion, and another 140 were injured. This is reported by Al Jazeera.

Police spokesman Sikandar Khan said the blast occurred when "a large number of people" had gathered for prayers. According to him, a part of the building has collapsed, several people are probably under it.

Al Jazeera's Kamal Haider, reporting from Islamabad, said that according to updated information, the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.

"We are also getting details... the suicide bomber was sitting in the first row during the communal prayer inside the mosque," he informed.

One of the witnesses, who was inside the mosque at the time of the incident, police officer Mina Gul, said he "doesn't know how he survived and remained unharmed" and added that he "heard cries and screams" after the bomb went off. According to him, at that time there were more than 150 believers in the building.

No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility in Peshawar, a city that borders Afghanistan, it said.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the attack on Twitter.

"We strongly condemn the terrorist attack by a suicide bomber in the Peshawar police mosque during prayer. My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims. We need to improve intelligence gathering and properly equip our police force to deal with the growing threat of terrorism," he wrote.

In western Pakistan on Sunday, January 29, a bus drove off a bridge, and a boat carrying children overturned. At least 51 people died in two separate traffic accidents.
