The Council of the European Union published the priorities of EU cooperation with the Council of Europe for 2023-2024.

"The perspective of EU membership is an important factor of stability in Europe, which the Council of Europe continues to strengthen. On June 23, 2022, the European Council recognized the European perspective of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. The future of these countries and their citizens lies in the European Union. This gives new impetus to further progress in the field of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in these countries and in the region as a whole," SOVA said in a document published by the Council of the European Union.

The EU also recognizes the important role of the European Council in maintaining compliance with European standards and strengthening important institutions in the process of reforms in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership countries.

"The EU and the Council of Europe will continue to work together to help EU candidate countries and potential candidates to make tangible progress towards EU membership criteria in their joint reform process. Our joint enlargement and regional neighborhood programs will continue to support reform efforts in the field of human rights, democracy and the rule of law," the Council of the European Union website says.
