The EU will train another 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers and allocate 25 million euros for demining

Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell, after a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on February 2, announced the EU's decision to train 15,000 more Ukrainian soldiers and allocate 25 million euros for demining.

 

 "Russia has returned the war to Europe, but Ukraine continues to fight. I am glad to inform Prime Minister Denys Shmygal that the EU military assistance mission EUMAM will train an additional 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers, which will bring the total number of trained EUMAM personnel to 30,000" - Borrell said. on his Twitter.

 

 Special training will include technical instruction for new weapons, in particular, Leopard 2 tanks.

 

 In addition, Borrell announced that the EU will allocate 25 million euros to support demining efforts in areas at risk. "The protection of civilians and their means of livelihood is a priority," said the head of European diplomacy.

 

 "The EU will launch a humanitarian demining program for 25 million euros. This is an important component of our recovery, which will allow us to return to normal life in communities de-occupied by Russian terrorists," commented Denys Shmyhal, quoted by the Prime Minister's press service.

 

 The European Union is expected to announce an additional aid package of 400 million euros to Ukraine to support the reform process.

 

 On Thursday, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and 15 members of the European Commission arrived in Kyiv for consultations with the Ukrainian government.

 

 On February 3, the Ukraine-EU summit will be held in Kyiv.
