On Saturday, the Council of the EU decided to establish two ceiling prices for oil products originating from or exported from Russia.

 The first ceiling for the price of petroleum products sold at a discount to crude oil is set at $45 per barrel, and the second ceiling for the price of petroleum products sold at a premium to crude oil is set at $100 per barrel.

 

 The price cap level was set in close cooperation with the Price Cap Coalition and will take effect on February 5, 2023. A transition period of 55 days is provided for vessels carrying Russian petroleum products that were purchased and loaded onto the vessel by February 5, 2023 and unloaded by April 1, 2023.

 

 In addition, the EU Council will return to the review of the crude oil ceiling price mechanism from mid-March, and this review will take place on a regular basis every two months.

 Earlier on Friday, the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU reported that the permanent representatives of the EU countries agreed on a price ceiling for Russian oil products.
