Fiala assured Zelenskyi that the Czech Republic will continue to provide military aid to Ukraine

During the meeting in Brussels, the head of the Czech government, Petr Fiala, assured President Volodymyr Zelenskyі of the continuation of military aid to Ukraine.

This was reported by radio Prague International.

Fiala emphasized that the Czech Republic is ready to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine, as well as supplying sources of electricity and helping to restore the energy infrastructure that Russia is systematically destroying.

Fiala noted that other points of the negotiations were the post-war recovery of Ukraine and support for the country's accession to the European Union.

"The door to the European Union is open, and Ukraine is taking vigorous steps in this direction," Fiala emphasized. He highly appreciated the progress in changing the legislation, which Kyiv made despite the war. "It is in our interests to help Ukraine go this way," added the Czech prime minister, while pointing out that there are clear rules for joining the EU, the implementation of which requires some time.

"For the state to be able to function at all, so that it has a chance to survive, systematic financial support is necessary," Fiala said, adding that the EU decided to allocate regular subsidies to Ukraine, thanks in particular to the Czech Republic, which at the time chaired the EU Council.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyi described the situation at the front to European leaders at a meeting in Brussels. The Ukrainian side handed over a list of weapons to each of the partner countries, a diplomatic source told the ČTK agency. According to him, the Czech Republic can provide approximately half of the listed weapons.

Volodymyr Zelenskyі asked Slovakia to hand over fighter jets to Ukraine. The prime minister of Slovakia said that his country will do everything to provide MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.

Assumptions about the possibility of transferring MiGs to Ukraine appeared as early as last spring. Now the Ukrainian president has officially appealed to the Slovak side with a request to provide fighter jets. Eduard Heger assured him that the Slovak government is interested in concluding the negotiations on the terms of the transfer of the aircraft as soon as possible.

"Aid to Ukraine is in the interests of Slovakia and security in Europe. We accept the request and will work on it," he said.

Slovaks have 12 MiG-29 fighters. The media reports that only a few of them are operational, so the rest can be used as a source of spare parts. Now the Slovak army is waiting for the American F-16 fighter jets. Until now, the airspace of Slovakia is guarded by regular pairs of fighter jets from Poland and the Czech Republic.
