The EU is confident in Moldova's ability to withstand risks from the Russian Federation and promises support

The EU shares the US assessment of the high risks for Moldova from the Russian Federation, but is convinced of Chisinau's ability to withstand these threats and challenges.

This was stated by the representative of the European Commission, Peter Stano, at a briefing in Brussels.

According to him, Moldova is one of those countries that suffered the greatest negative impact in connection with the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"In recent months, we have observed an increase in Russia's malicious actions directed against Moldova: foreign interference, disinformation, hybrid attacks. The purpose of this is clear: to undermine, destabilize the country, to call into question the reform-oriented and anti-corruption pro-European government of Moldova," Stano said.

According to him, the EU shares the same risk assessment for Moldova as the US.

"At the same time, we are convinced of Moldova's ability to deal with these unprecedented threats and challenges. And we will continue to support Moldova in strengthening its ability to resist," Stano said.

He also reminded that the EU is considering placing an advisory civil mission in Moldova, which has yet to be agreed upon by the member states.

The White House said last week that individuals connected to Russian intelligence are planning to organize protests in Moldova to overthrow the government and install a more pro-Russian government.

On Sunday, the Moldovan police announced that they had uncovered a group of riot organizers against the backdrop of a protest by pro-Russian forces in Chisinau.
