Russia will chair the UN Security Council in April 2023. According to the terms of the rotation, it will replace Mozambique.

 "Russia will assume the chairmanship of the Security Council under the terms of rotation in April," the message reads.

 Earlier, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Russia should not be a permanent member of the UN Security Council. According to her, during its presidency, Moscow can promote disinformation against Ukraine, the USA and other countries.

 Note that the UN Security Council is an international body responsible for maintaining peace. It can receive complaints from countries, the Council votes and makes decisions on security issues, which other UN members are obliged to follow.

 The Council consists of 10 rotating and five permanent members, including Russia, Great Britain, France, the United States and China, who have veto power. Moscow is to head the executive body from April 1 for a month, replacing Mozambique.

 Meanwhile, Ukraine called to procedurally corner the aggressor country and prevent it from promoting false narratives about the war against Ukraine.

 This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, during a discussion organized by Chatham House.

 According to him, during the presidency of the UN Security Council, Russia will promote its narratives, as well as vote for the body to make decisions on topics that concern Ukraine. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this presidency is a reminder that something is happening improperly in the security architecture.

 Thus, Kuleba noted that the UN Security Council is a UN body that has its own rules. According to the minister, it would be good if, in the case of Russia's presidency, the members of the UN Security Council would leave the room, so that the aggressor country would remain there alone.

 "It is necessary to drive Russia into a corner with the existing procedures so that they cannot "abuse" the rules and promote narratives that do not tell the truth about the war that Russia is waging in Ukraine," he added.
