Kyiv: President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with the Secretary-General of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, Archbishop Aristarch. On this on Monday, January 21, the press service of the head of state reports this.
It is indicated that Poroshenko noted, "the important historical role that the Jerusalem Patriarchate plays in preserving holy places and strengthening the authority of the Christian church throughout the world".
"With the receipt of Tomos on autocephaly on January 6, 2019, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, one of the largest countries in Europe, joined the family of Orthodox sister churches. This event will remain forever in the history of Ukraine alongside with Vladimir's baptism, becoming a spiritual act of its independence," said the president.
It is known that the head of state also visited the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where he "prayed for the peace and prosperity of Ukraine".
In addition, Poroshenko talked with the Ukrainian pilgrims who came to Jerusalem.
