Kiev: President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and discussed the “Norman format” and the settlement of the situation in the Donbass.
This was reported in the Office of the President.
The presidents agreed that the “Norman format” is the key to ending hostilities in Ukraine, and the meeting should be held in the near future.
“Ukraine has completed its part to restore the work of the Norman Four.” We look forward to holding a meeting of the leaders of the "Norman Four" in the near future, because all barriers have been removed”, - Zelensky said.
On October 21, the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin announced the lack of progress in preparing for the meeting of the leaders of the "Norman Four".
Recall, on October 1, 2019, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced that Ukraine agrees to the “Steinmeier formula”.
The “formula” is very short and provides only that the occupied part of Donbass should receive temporary special status on the day of the local elections in these territories. If the OSCE recognizes these elections as democratic, the Verkhovna Rada will consolidate this special status on an ongoing basis.
The formula does not go about the withdrawal of troops and control by Ukraine abroad before the elections.
