Kiev: The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) downgraded Malaysia's air traffic safety rating by banning airlines from launching new flights to the United States, Reuters reports citing sources.
"Malaysia’s rating has been downgraded to category 2. .. The new rating level means that Malaysian airlines are now limited by the current volume of flights with the United States. These flights will be subject to additional checks at US airports", - the report said.
The FAA will also not allow new Malaysian airlines to fly to the United States via code-sharing with US airlines.
Now the only airline in Malaysia flying to the United States is the low-cost AirAsia X, which flies from Kuala Lumpur to Honolulu (Hawaii) via Osaka.
