Kiev: Oleg Sentsov, a Ukrainian film director and former political prisoner, was awarded an international prize in the field of journalistic investigations and the defense of human rights named after Sergei Magnitsky.

It is reported by the Voice of America.

The ceremony, which traditionally takes place in London, was broadcast on the YouTube channel Hermitage Capital Management - Sergey Magnitsky worked in this investment fund.

The award was awarded to Sentsov in November last year, but the director could not accept it personally, being behind bars on charges of preparing terrorist attacks in the annexed Crimea.

The award was presented to the former political prisoner by the daughter of Senator John McCain Megan, her father was posthumously awarded the Magnitsky Prize last year.

Sentsov was presented on Twitter by William Browder, founder of Hermitage Capital Management and founder of the Magnitsky Prize.
