Brussels: Official representative of Cyprus vetoed EU resolution about sanctions against Belarus. The decision was made on the session of Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) of EU in Brussels on Friday, September 18, DW states linking to one European diplomat.

,,Nicosia’s (Capital of Cyprus) such move protects Lukashenko’s regime from consequences of his non-democratic and oppressive actions’’, the source says.

Previously, official representatives of foreign ministry of Cyprus declared that they would support to impose sanctions by EU towards Belarus only if EU had inflicted penalties against Turkey who is conducting gas exploration in disputed waters of the east part of Mediterranean Sea.
