A protest against measures to combat the coronavirus epidemic has ended in clashes in the city of Mangheim, in southwestern Germany.

The demonstration gathered in spite of the ban on meetings. When law enforcement officials tried to stop it, people did not want to disperse, clashes began.

 

The police reported 13 injured colleagues, one required hospitalization.

 

13 people were detained in connection with the clashes, some may face further responsibility for bodily injury. Reports of assembly law violations were filed against 131 people.

 

A small demonstration with 100 participants also took place in Weingheim, two law-enforcement officers were injured there.

 

Deutschlandfunk notes that there were rallies in many other towns as well. Police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reported that about 17,000 people took to the streets in 20 towns in the evening. A number of actions took place in Saxony, some also stopped by the police. In Magdeburg about a thousand people came out.
