Insider on departure of Russian diplomats from Ukraine is an SBU rubbish tip - Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on The New York Times' story about the evacuation of Russian ambassadors from Ukraine.

"The Russian embassy and consulates general in Ukraine are working as usual. They do so despite attacks on Russian foreign offices by Ukrainian radicals and provocations by local security forces," she wrote.

She added that there are threats, including personal threats, against diplomats, administrative and technical staff and their families.

"All of this is regularly reported to the Ukrainian side in the form of protest notes. One recent example is the attack on the Russian Consulate General in Lviv with the use of Molotov cocktails," Zakharova noted.

Zakharova also wrote that The New York Times did not seek comment from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"If the American newspaper had approached us for a comment, it would have found out about this (about embassies operating in a normal mode - ed.). But then, apparently, there would have been no desire to publish the whole story, and, accordingly, the opportunity to once again "hype" on the topic of "Russian aggression" was missed," she wrote.

Earlier, the NYT newspaper quoted a high-ranking SBU official as saying that Russia was going to evacuate diplomats from Ukraine.
