Britain warned Russia: Ukrainians will fight, new Afghanistan and Chechnya await you

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss made a statement amid the threat of Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine will resist Russia in case of invasion - and the Kremlin will get a war comparable to the campaigns in Afghanistan or Chechnya. She said this at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, according to Britain's government website.

According to her, the Kremlin has not learned the lessons of history. Truss noted that Ukraine is a proud country with a long history. It has faced invasions more than once, starting with the Mongol-Tatar invasion, survived the Holodomor - and its level of resistance is high.

"If they have to, Ukrainians will fight to defend their country. The invasion will suck them into the terrible quagmire we know from the Soviet war in Afghanistan or the conflict in Chechnya," she said.

The British foreign minister believes that the Russian Federation dreams of restoring the Soviet Union or something like "Greater Russia".
