Saakashvili's associate said the condition of the former president of Georgia is worsening

Georgian MP Grigol Vashadze said the health of jailed Mikheil Saakashvili is seriously undermined and he needs qualified medical care.

"There is a radical difference in the state of health of Mikheil Saakashvili when I first met him in Rustavi prison in October and today. There are absolutely obvious serious problems in his health, and these problems need to be urgently addressed by doctors in a qualified manner so that his condition does not deteriorate further," Vashadze told reporters on Monday after visiting Saakashvili.

Vashadze served as Georgia's foreign minister in Saakashvili's government and was chairman of the United National Movement (UNM) party until December 2020, but left it due to disagreements with his fellow party members.

The UNM MPs intend to petition the parliament for the establishment of a temporary investigative commission to investigate the facts of "torture and inhuman treatment" of Saakashvili. The ruling Georgian Dream party considers the opposition's initiative absurd.

Saakashvili is facing several criminal cases. He considers his detention illegal and the charges against him trumped up.
