European Parliament President Roberta Metsola says that the European Parliament recognizes Ukraine's European perspective.

"We recognize Ukraine's European perspective. We welcome, Mr. President, Ukraine's application for candidacy and we will work toward that goal. We must look to the future together," she said Tuesday in Brussels at a special EP meeting convened in the wake of Russia's Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Addressing the Ukrainian president, she assured:

"The EP supports you in your fight for survival in this dark moment in our history... When you look to the European Parliament, you will find an ally, a space to turn to Europe and the world and always, always a friend."
