Latvia will stop using Russian gas in 2023

Latvian Economy Minister Janis Vittenberg said on Tuesday that the government has agreed to stop using Russian gas from January 1, 2023. This was reported by ERR on Wednesday.

Thus, according to Vittenbergs, it is a historic decision that will strengthen the energy security of Latvia. Amendments to the law providing for the rejection of Russian natural gas will be presented to parliament.

"The first step for Latvia is to agree with Finland and Estonia that Latvia will be able to receive additional gas from the Paldiski terminal until it builds its own gas terminal," the minister said.
