Representatives of 5 countries left the APEC meeting during the speech of the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation

Representatives of five countries left the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in protest against the presence of the Russian delegation. They were ministers from Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

This is reported by nikkeiAsia.

It is noted that ministers from Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand left the hall when Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov began to speak at the meeting.

Reuters quoted officials and diplomats as saying two members of the Thai leadership and two foreign diplomats said members of the delegations of Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Australia joined their American counterparts and walked out of the hall during the Russian representative's speech.

Another diplomat noted that the five protesting states were pushing for tougher language on Moscow in the final statement of the meeting in the Thai capital.
