There are 4.8 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe - UN

According to an analysis of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, there are currently about 4.8 million refugees from Ukraine in European countries. This is according to updated UN figures.

According to the UNHCR in Geneva, there have been nearly 7.3 million crossings into Ukraine to travel abroad since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression.

The statistics also show 2.3 million border crossings in the opposite direction, that is, from abroad to Ukraine. It is possible that this figure recorded people who traveled there and back several times. The statistics do not say anything about the period for which people returned to Ukraine.

A total of 3.2 million Ukrainians in Europe registered with the temporary protection program or similar national protection programs.

According to the UNHCR, most Ukrainian refugees live in neighboring Poland: more than 1.15 million people. An estimated 1.1 million people have fled from Ukraine to Russia since February.

The third largest host country is Germany, with 780,000 refugees, followed by the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain.
