The outcome of the war in Ukraine will be decided on the battlefield, not at the negotiating table - Lithuanian President

The outcome of the war launched by Russia in Ukraine will be decided on the battlefield, not at the negotiating table. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said this in an interview with the Voice of America newspaper

"Now we understand that their conflict cannot be resolved sitting at the negotiating table. The conflict will be resolved on the battlefield...I see no other alternatives and we must do our best to achieve a Ukrainian victory in this war. Any other scenarios can be very dark for Ukraine, Lithuania and the whole democratic world", said Nauseda.

In his words, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been fooled by the scenario of this war.

"Putin expected that they would take Kyiv in a few days, and that this war would not bring great political and economic consequences for Russia. But we see that this is not the case," he said.

Nauseda also added that he does not believe in talks with Putin, because arguments do not play any role for him.

"Because the main ideology of this regime is to conquer as much as possible, to fight against the neighbors, who can be attacked. They are trying to end the empire, to reestablish the Radyanskiy Union in one form or another. This means not only risks and threats for Ukraine, but also for all of us. Even for the countries that were not radicals, for Western Europe", - he said.

Nauseda also said that in the event of a victory in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin will seek new territories.

"It is very important to note that there are no limits to Volodymyr Putin's appetite. If he succeeds in Ukraine, they will come to our door. I do not know who their next target will be - the Baltic States, Poland, perhaps, Rumania, but this is not the most important thing. The most important challenge is to do things in the format of NATO and the European Union that would disable Putin," he added.
