Biden: aid to Ukraine will continue uninterrupted even under a Republican majority

US President Joe Biden expects that after the midterm elections, regardless of the outcome, aid to Ukraine will continue without interruption.

He said this at a press conference in Washington.

"In the area of foreign policy, I hope that we will continue this bipartisan approach to confronting Russian aggression in Ukraine. That is my expectation. So I would be surprised if Leader McCarthy (the Republican leader in the House of Representatives) even with the majority, says that they are not intend to finance Ukraine's legitimate defense needs," Biden said.

At the same time, he emphasized that the USA does not write "blank checks" to Ukraine, that is, it does not agree to all requests for help.

"For example, I was asked a lot whether we could provide American planes to guarantee the protection of the sky over Ukraine. I said: "No, we are not going to do that. We are not going to get involved in the third world war, take part in Russian aircraft and enter into a direct conflict." But will we provide them all with a rational ability to defend themselves? Yes," Biden explained.

He cited the example of the HIMARS systems transferred to Ukraine. "Simply speaking, there are two types of missiles that you can drop: one that can fly more than 600 miles, and one that can fly about 160 miles. We haven't given them any that can fly 600 miles because I don't want, for them to start bombing Russian territory," Biden said.

It will be recalled that the Republican Party is on the way to establishing control over the House of Representatives of the Congress based on the results of the midterm elections held on Tuesday in the USA.
