The SSU is conducting searches of ex-officials of the Ministry of Defense involved in the procurement scandal

On Wednesday, February 1, the SSU searched the former director of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and the deputy minister of defense Vyacheslav Shapovalov. Both are involved in the scandal with the purchase of food for the military.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to its own sources.

As it became known, Khmelnytskyi was charged with embezzlement of state funds in the amount of UAH 107,796,050 and with regard to the provision of 5,700 units of the Armed Forces with low-quality body armor.

As reported, the Ministry of Defense turned to the SBU and started an investigation into the scandal with inflated prices during purchases for the military.

It should also be noted that on January 24, it became known that the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shapovalov resigned.

The next day, January 25, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, director of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense, was dismissed from his position.

We will remind you that the mass media published an investigation in which it was claimed that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine allegedly buys food for the Armed Forces at prices 2-3 times higher than prices in Kyiv supermarkets.
