Zelenskyi: in Ukraine, the territory is polluted with mines and shells, like two Austrias

In Ukraine, 174,000 square kilometers have been contaminated with mines and shells due to Russian aggression. Which is twice the area of Austria.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi during a video address to the Austrian parliament.

"174 thousand square kilometers of Ukrainian territories are contaminated with mines and unexploded shells. This contaminated area is like two territories of Austria. These are hundreds of thousands of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, rockets from rocket artillery, aerial bombs, mortar shells and ammunition that did not explode and were stuck in fields," Zelenskyi said.

He noted that the occupiers left explosives in buildings, gardens, parks and gardens of civilians. At the same time, disguised grenades take the lives of Ukrainians in the liberated territories almost every day.

"Unfortunately, every day there are reports of explosions that took lives and maimed people. All of this is part of Russia's self-portrait today, which it creates with its aggression, its crazy war," Zelenskyi emphasized.

The head of state also spoke about the cases when the Russian military intentionally detonated such objects as, for example, musical instruments, cabinets, bags, washing machines, etc.

It should be noted that, according to experts' estimates, about 40% of the territory of our country is contaminated by mines.
