Biden declared an "extremely negative" reaction to the placement of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus

US President Joe Biden has expressed a negative attitude towards the transfer of Russian tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus. He told reporters about this on May 26, the White House reported.

Biden was asked: "What is your reaction to Russia moving tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus?" He replied: "Extremely negative - that's my reaction."

The American president did not provide any other comments.

It will be recalled that on March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power in Belarus since 1994, asked him to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in the country. According to Putin, the construction of the storage facility in Belarus will be completed by July 1. Putin claimed that for now it is not about the transfer of nuclear weapons, but about the training of nuclear weapons carriers and their crews.

The reason for such a step, according to the Russian president, was Britain's statement on the supply of depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine. At the same time, Great Britain emphasized that this component has nothing to do with nuclear weapons or potential, and that Russia "knows about it, but is deliberately trying to misinform." NATO criticized Putin for his "dangerous and irresponsible" nuclear rhetoric.

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the European Union may introduce new sanctions if Russia deploys nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.

On May 25, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus reported that the Ministers of Defense of Russia and Belarus, Serhiy Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin, signed documents in Minsk that determine the procedure for placing Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of Belarus.

On May 25, Oleksandr Lukashenko, who considers himself the president of Belarus, said that Russian tactical nuclear munitions have already begun to be moved to Belarus within the framework of agreements concluded with Russia.
