The enemy does not organize the evacuation of the civilian population - the mayor of Nova Kakhovka about the situation in the city

Nova Kakhovka was one of the first to suffer after the occupiers blew up the dam of the Kakhovka HPP. Despite the fact that the city began to suffer from water since dawn, as of 11 o'clock in the morning, the occupiers did not even announce the evacuation of the local population. The mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Volodymyr Kovalenko, told UNN about this.

"Around 12:00, I had an extreme conversation with the residents of Novaya Kakhovka - they don't know anything about it, despite the fact that they were walking around the city, well, on the territory where you can walk. Nothing was organized," cried the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka.

The head of the city said that according to peacetime calculations, the water should reach the Sokil neighborhood and stop there.

"Up to the fifth street from Dnipro, this is Istorichna Street, the water should stop there even with the largest scale of destruction. Those people who can move on their own, it is a short distance of 1.5-2 km you have to walk and you will be in a neighborhood where there is no longer any threat. The condition of people who are alone, lying down, and unable to go out is a concern," says the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka.

However, according to the mayor, the troops of the occupiers evacuated from dangerous areas and even managed to take something with them.

"The occupiers who were on the bank of the Dnieper left there because everything was flooded, even some mines were detonated on the bank. They moved to the third or fourth street in the city and now they are all there. The only thing that the residents saw was that the occupiers, during the evacuation, took away the washing machines from the premises on the bank of the Dnipro," the mayor of Nova Kakhovka told UNN.

We will remind, on June 6, 2023, at around 3:00 a.m., the Russian military blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region. Due to the explosion, the Kakhovskaya HPP was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

There is an additional threat to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, but the situation is under control, Energoatom said.

Criminal proceedings on ecocide have been opened.

After a few hours, the water will reach a critical level. There is a threat of flooding up to 80 settlements. About 16,000 people were in the critical zone.

The Kherson Regional Government announced the evacuation of the population of some settlements, including some from Kherson. Evacuation has already begun.

Due to the detonation by the occupiers of the HPP, President Zelensky called an emergency meeting of the NSDC.
