Yuriy Ihnat explained why Mirage 2000 is not suitable for Ukraine

Ukraine does not consider French Mirage 2000 attack aircraft to be the best option for its military aviation needs. The spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ihnat, said that the country needs modern multi-purpose aircraft. He said this during a briefing.

Ihnat emphasized that any military assistance is important, but not in the case of Mirage 2000.

"Any help is important for us. But not in the case of Mirage 2000. We have already talked about this many times. How can an A-10 attack aircraft help? If the Russian air defense system simply destroys it. We need to gain air superiority. We need a multi-purpose aircraft, a modern one, capable of providing us with all the tasks I mentioned above," the speaker explained.

Ihnat noted that Ukraine needs aircraft that will provide air superiority, drive Russian aviation away from Ukraine's borders and occupied territories, and be capable of striking ground and surface targets.

He added that in addition to combat missions, the aircraft will also have to protect the airspace and destroy cruise missiles and drones.

The speaker believes that the transfer of Mirage 2000s will not be a rational decision, and their use will only deplete the potential of Ukrainian aviation.

"Therefore, we cannot afford to take anything from the aircraft fleet today. It is not rational. And it will simply exhaust the work of our people. We need to focus on one, maximum two types of multi-purpose aircraft capable of solving the tasks I mentioned. The Mirage 2000 is an outdated model, and France has much better aircraft in Europe. That is why we are considering the aircraft we are talking about," Ihnat emphasized.
