Five people were killed and 40 more injured when an SUV crashed into a Christmas parade in the center of Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA.

 

According to law enforcement officials, a red SUV crashed into a barrier at the Waukesha Christmas parade just after 4:30 p.m. (10:30 p.m. GMT) as spectators watched the annual tradition.

 

Eyewitnesses said the car drove into the parade at full speed behind the school band.

 

Eleven adults and 12 children are currently in hospitals.

 

According to Police Chief Dan Thompson, schools will not open Monday and roads will remain closed while the investigation continues.

 

U.S. President Joe Biden said the White House is "closely monitoring the situation in Waukesha" and has offered state and local officials help.
