Ukraine after the EU may reduce the validity of COVID certificates - Ministry of Health

Ukraine is considering the possibility of reducing the validity of certificates of vaccination, following the example of the European Union. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health Maria Karchevych.

The official noted that the European Commission is preparing a decision, which will shorten the validity of COVID certificates. According to Maria Karcevic, the document is expected to be adopted by the European Union on January 10, 2022.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Health warned that Ukraine, following the EU, may reduce the validity of certificates of vaccination against coronavirus.

Before the Cabinet of Ministers settles the issue by its resolution, the initiative must be considered by the National Technical Expert Group on Immunization, after which the document is submitted to a meeting for approval by the headquarters for vaccine-preventable infections of the Ministry of Health.

Maria Karchevich, speaking to reporters, also explained how shortening the validity of COVID certificates will affect citizens who already have digitally generated documents.

"If we are talking about reducing the validity period from 365 days to 270, then for people who will go with such a certificate to the EU, they will be valid, but within the period of validity, which will be determined at the level of the EU countries," continued the Deputy Minister.

According to Maria Karchevits, if Ukrainians have a vaccination certificate validity period of 270 days after receiving the second dose of the drug, they will be able to enter the territory of the European Union, but in compliance with the restrictions, which will be set by the government of each individual country.

"If there will be a condition of entry with a certificate validity period of 270 days, if a person has an expiration date, he will not be able to enter the territory of this country under the COVID certificate", - summed up the deputy head of the Ministry of Health in a comment to journalists.
