Extreme right-wing activists came under the EU Embassy in Tbilisi, demanding that the Equality March not be allowed and that LGBT propaganda stop. About 10 people were detained.
News-Georgia reports this.
About two dozen people from right-wing groups positioning themselves as defenders of traditional values came to the rally. The activists brought posters with insulting slogans addressed to the Western ambassadors, demanding "to stop LGBT propaganda" and "interference of UN and EU in internal affairs of Georgia" and said they would "do everything possible" to disrupt the LGBT week events. They also burned a rainbow flag in front of the embassy.
The rally escalated into clashes with police and detentions. As far as we know, Morality movement leaders Guram and Alexander Palavanishvili are among those detained.
Last year 53 media representatives were injured during the rallies against LGBT Pride in Tbilisi, and beaten cameraman Lekso Lashkarava died soon after.
These events further exacerbated the situation inside the country and had a negative impact on Georgia's relations with the EU.
