The U.S. has prepared a plan to train the Ukrainian military in the use of MLRS

The US Armed Forces have developed a plan to train the Ukrainian military in the use of multiple rocket launchers.

This was announced by the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army General Mark Milley, according to The Washington Post.

"We have to start this thing with a rational and thoughtful program that will prepare them to the standard at which they become effective. It won't do any good to just throw this system into the fray. You have to be taught this to make the most of the weapon as an accurate system," Milley said.

According to the newspaper, at this stage it is expected that a "platoon of Ukrainian soldiers" will be trained by the U.S. side.

Milley noted that Britain, which will transfer three M270 systems, will also train a platoon of Ukrainian soldiers.

He noted that the Russians "have demonstrated that they are superior to Ukrainian artillery in numbers and its range" in battles in the eastern region, which has become a major focus of Russian operations.

The United States has already sent Ukraine dozens of M777 howitzers capable of firing 155mm shells at a range of about 40 kilometers. Milley said Ukrainian forces have used these weapons to great effect, but the Ukrainians need "some longer-range artillery systems" that can reach longer ranges.

"The Ukrainians have very good artillerymen. Very good artillerymen. They have excellent artillery. But they used Soviet-era systems and then they switched to other systems," Milley said.

As a reminder, on June 1, the United States disclosed details of a new $700 million military assistance package for Ukraine, which for the first time included HIMARS missile systems.
