A hit on a shopping mall, a large-scale fire, and casualties: what's happening in Kremenchug

Russian troops struck Kremenchug (Poltava region) today, June 27, 2022. One of the missiles hit a shopping mall, resulting in deaths and injuries.

After 3:30 p.m., Russian missiles were detected arriving in Kremenchug. Authorities in the Poltava region immediately stated that a civilian facility had been hit and also confirmed casualties.

Then the mayor of Kremenchug, Vitaly Maletsky, specified that the missile hit a very crowded place, which had nothing to do with military action. Also the local media began to spread footage of the burning Amstor shopping center.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already reacted to the strike on Kremenchug. According to him, there were more than a thousand civilians in the mall at the time of the incident.

"The number of victims is impossible even to imagine. No danger to the Russian army. No strategic value. Only an attempt by people to live a normal life, which makes the occupiers so angry. Russia continues to take its powerlessness out on ordinary citizens. It is useless to hope for adequacy and humanity from its side", - noted Zelensky.

As the head of the Poltava regional military administration Dmitry Lunin noted, the number of victims of this strike is being specified.

"The missile strike on the mall with people in Kremenchug is yet another war crime by the Russians. A crime against humanity. It is an undisguised and cynical act of terror against civilians. Russia is a terrorist state," he added.

According to Kirill Timoshenko, deputy head of the presidential office, at least two people are known to have been killed so far. Another 20 people were wounded, nine of them in serious condition. The rescue operation is ongoing.
