The Foreign Ministry explained whether the occupation of the territories will prevent Ukraine's membership in the EU

Europe is full of conflicts that remain under the cover of endless negotiations. If there is a desire to find a political solution, there will be a way for Ukraine to become a member of the EU even if it occupies part of its territories.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, in an interview to the publication El Pais.

The minister cited as an example Spain, which is a member of the European Union and has an open conflict with the UK over Gibraltar. He added that Cyprus is a member of the EU while the island is divided with Turkey.

"Obviously, we want the war to end and we want to free our territory," he said.

Kuleba added that EU accession negotiations will be very difficult because of different interests.

"But the art of diplomacy is to find a balance. Ukraine's membership will make the EU stronger," the minister stressed.
