Russia's actions at the Zaporizhzhya NPP create a risk of a nuclear incident and radiation leak, which may pose a danger not only to Ukraine, but also to neighboring countries and the entire international community. The only way to solve this problem is to return control over the ZNPP to Ukraine and withdraw Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine. US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins stated this at an online briefing, UP writes.
"Russia should immediately cease hostilities around this site and allow Ukrainian personnel working there to carry out their duties without pressure from the Russian armed forces," Jenkins said.
She also emphasized the importance of immediate access to the NPP by IAEA specialists. At the same time, the deputy state secretary emphasized, this visit should be organized "with full respect for the principle of Ukrainian sovereignty."
Responding to a reporter's question about whether the US should immediately announce possible sanctions against the Russians in the event of an accident at the ZNPP, Jenkins said that now all efforts are aimed at avoiding such an accident.
