Zelenskiy on the tribunal for Russia: Ukraine and its partners are carefully working on the project

In the Office of the President of Ukraine today, the ambassadors of thirty countries were presented with a project to create a special international tribunal to punish Russia for the crime of aggression against our country.

This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a video message.

"The difficulty of involving Russia in this crime is that the available international legal instruments are not enough. We need a special international tribunal. And we are working on this project in great detail," the head of state said.

He also noted that no one doubts that the tribunal will be held accountable for all those who unleashed this criminal war against Ukraine and freedom in Europe.

It is assumed that a special tribunal will have the jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute for crimes of aggression against Ukraine the highest political and military leadership of Russia - the president and other top officials of the Russian Federation, including members of the National Security Council, who authorized military aggression against Ukraine.

During the meeting with the ambassadors, the deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrii Smirnov, who is the coordinator of the working group on the development of the creation of a special international tribunal, emphasized that work on the document has been ongoing since the first day of the invasion.

"We weighed all existing mechanisms, including UN resolutions, held consultations with the most famous international lawyers from around the world, and came to the conclusion that a special international tribunal should be established to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine, the mandate of which will be limited exclusively to the investigation of the crime of aggression against Ukraine," stressed the deputy head of the Office of the President.
