Macron called on Germany for European solidarity in responding to the energy crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance of European solidarity in the face of the challenges of the energy crisis, alluding to Germany and its ambitious support plan.

He is quoted by Le Figaro.

We can see European solidarity towards Germany and it would be natural if Germany shows solidarity towards Europe... We cannot hold on to national politicians because that creates distortions on the continent. Now, as during the corona crisis, the moment of truth has come (...) We need to act unitedly and in solidarity. Germany is in the midst of a paradigm shift, and the destabilizing nature of this cannot be underestimated. But if we want coherence, we need to adopt not national strategies, but a European strategy," Macron said.

He added that he believes in "the Franco-German partnership and the ability to implement an ambitious strategy together."

A number of European countries have begun criticizing Olaf Scholz's government over Germany's €200 billion support plan for households and businesses, calling for greater financial solidarity in the face of the energy crisis.
