The unemployed will be recruited into the "Recovery Army" of Ukraine - Svyridenko

Unemployed Ukrainians can be "mobilized" to participate in socially useful works. This was stated by the first vice-prime minister of the economy, Yuliya Svyridenko, according to a message on the ministry's website.

 

 "Because of the war, a fairly high level of unemployment is expected in the country - about 30% at the end of the year... The government has developed and proposed a mechanism by which the temporarily unemployed can be involved in performing socially useful works," she said.

 

 "People who have lost their jobs for various reasons will be able to join the Army of the country's reconstruction, and the state will pay for their work at the level of the minimum wage, which is UAH 6,700 as of October," Svyridenko added.

 

 The unemployed can be involved in the performance of works of a defensive nature, works to eliminate the consequences of emergency situations of man-made, natural and military nature. In particular, it can be:

 

 setting up and strengthening checkpoints, felling trees to form trenches;

 

 harvesting firewood for the military and the population;

 

 demolition of rubble and restoration of residential buildings and other premises damaged as a result of hostilities;

 

 strengthening of dams;

 

 clearing roadways from debris;

 

 unloading of humanitarian aid;

 

 arrangement of basements in high-rise buildings, schools for shelter;

 

 repair and restoration works in premises of the social sphere;

 

 providing assistance to internally displaced persons, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

 

 All able-bodied persons, including registered unemployed and internally displaced persons who do not have health restrictions, will be involved in the work.

 

 To date, socially useful works have already been implemented in Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
