The EU flag was raised again near the Georgian Parliament building

Georgian policemen installed the flag of the European Union in front of the Georgian Parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. Earlier, the flag was torn down and burned by the leaders and supporters of the pro-Kremlin radical group Alt-Info and the Conservative Movement party.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, condemned the actions of the participants of the action, reminding that the country has introduced administrative responsibility for insulting the EU flag. He also said that "radicalism begets radicalism", thereby comparing the actions of radicals to protests against the "foreign agents" law.

The actions of the radicals were also condemned by the leader of the "Power of the People" movement, Dmytro Khundadze, who initiated the bill "On Transparency of Foreign Influence". Pro-Kremlin forces support the adoption of the document.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia announced that it has started administrative proceedings on the fact of the incident that happened today near the parliament building. The department promised that all offenders will be identified and fined.

A fine of 1,000 lari (about $400) is provided for damage to the flags of the European Union hung near the buildings of state institutions, as well as the flags of international organizations and countries with which Georgia has established diplomatic relations. In the event of a repeated offense, a fine of 2,000 GEL or administrative arrest for a term of up to 15 days is provided.
