The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey after negotiations with Lavrov: the war must be ended as soon as possible

Turkey is in favor of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war as soon as possible on the basis of negotiations and is ready to support this process.

This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on April 7 after talks with Russian Minister Sergey Lavrov in Ankara, CNN Turk reports.

According to Çavuşoğlu, the meeting discussed regional issues, among which Ukraine remains a serious problem.

"We stated that the war should be ended through negotiations as soon as possible, and we reiterated that we, as Turkey, are ready to provide the best support (in this process. - Ed.)," Çavuşoğlu said.

According to the minister, Turkey is actively in contact with both sides in order to advance the dialogue.

Çavuşoğlu added that Ankara also supports steps to extend the "grain agreement".

"We attach great importance to the continuation of the agreement. This global crisis is especially important to reduce the problem that every household in the world is facing," he said.

At the end of March, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had a conversation with the President of the Russian Federation, in which he confirmed the need for an "immediate end" to the war in Ukraine.

Erdogan told Putin that Turkey attaches great importance to the "immediate termination of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict through negotiations," the Turkish president's office said.
